Rangers manager Walter Smith insists he is none the wiser on talk the SPL giants could be taken over.

Reports had hinted that Sir David Murray could be set to sell his stakeholding in the debt-ridden club.

However, Smith is not a man in the know when it comes to takeover talk, stating he knows nothing from the inside on the reports.

"I've got no idea," said Smith. "I don't know anything about the proposed takeover so there is no use asking me."

When it was put to Smith that it would be a relief for everyone at the club if the financial uncertainty surrounding Rangers were to end, he replied: "It would be a big relief to everyone at the club if we managed to win the seven games [for the title].

"That would be as big a relief for the club as anything."

Team success

Meanwhile, Lee McCulloch, who bagged a brace in Saturday's 3-1 win over St Mirren, insists team success comes before personal glory.

The double took his season tally to seven, just five behind his personal best of 12, which he achieved with Motherwell.

However, McCulloch is not reading too much into his personal form as he does not mind who gets the goals as long as the team continues winning.

"I've managed to get a few goals this season compared to other seasons when I've been in a different role," explained McCulloch.

"I've played a few games at centre-half this season as well so it's good to contribute to the goals.

"My best tally in Scotland is 12 when I was at Motherwell - and that was a long time ago!

"I'll just keep going but it doesn't matter who gets the goals as long as we keep getting the points."
