Marcus Haber insists he is ready to start the season for St Johnstone despite his recent gruelling schedule.

The Canadian striker has played continuously for the last 18 months, but is only too happy to have linked up with the Saints ahead of the 2010/11 campaign.

The 21-year-old has joined the SPL side on a season-long loan deal from West Brom, having only recently completed a similar stint with the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Despite having been involved in competitive action for a prolonged period of time, Haber is adamant that he would have no qualms about being thrown straight into the first team at McDiarmid Park.

"I first heard of the club's interest a few weeks ago," he told the Saints' official website.

"They had sent scouts to watch me when playing for Vancouver Whitecaps.

"I've been playing solidly for the last 18 months because West Brom loaned me to Vancouver back in April, so I'm match fit."

The Vancouver-born frontman, who also holds an Austrian passport, added: "I've heard the SPL is up-tempo and physical so it will be like the Championship in England.

"This is the real deal for me."

Haber has been loaned out once again by Premier League new boys West Brom in order for him to continue developing as a player.

St Johnstone boss Derek McInnes, a former Baggies captain, is delighted to have the youngster on board and believes he will benefit from his time in Scotland.

He said: "West Brom have high hopes for him but having stepped up a level into the Premiership they wanted him to go out on loan rather than be kicking his heels at The Hawthorns.

"He is young, hungry, has real pace and he's keen to learn."
