Skysports.com understands Dundee United are poised to sign former Liverpool youngster Gary Mackay-Steven.

The starlet impressed manager Peter Houston while on trial, enough to land himself a two-year deal at Tannadice.

The 20-year-old won rave reviews in Scotland after joining Second Division side Airdrie in January.

He joined Liverpool's Academy three years ago, but a series of niggling injuries hindered his ability to progress on Merseyside.

SPL rivals Hibernian and Kilmarnock were linked with the youngster earlier in the year, although it now seems The Tangerines are poised to land the talent.
