Strachan: Looking for lead

I don't think in all the years I've been a manager I've ever said a draw's good enough for us or no goals.

Celtic boss Gordon Strachan has ruled out playing for a stalemate against Spartak Moscow.

The SPL champions travel to Russia for the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round first leg on Wednesday.

Strachan will send his side out looking to take a lead back to Celtic Park for the return leg at the end of the month.

"I don't think in all the years I've been a manager I've ever said a draw's good enough for us or no goals," he told Sky Sports News.

"I don't think you can plan that way.

"You can be very lucky at times and maybe get away with that but I'd rather rely on ability than luck."

Strachan will not be underestimating Spartak, who reached last season's Champions League group stage.

"They're leading their league and they've proved difficult over the years to play against," he added.

Boruc blow

Celtic are set to be without first-choice goalkeeper Artur Boruc for the game due to injury, so Mark Brown should continue to deputise.

Asked if Boruc would play against Spartak, Strachan said: "I don't think so."
