Rangers have confirmed they are aware of an "incident" in Glasgow city centre involving Allan McGregor which reportedly led to him receiving hospital treatment.

McGregor was reportedly hurt outside a Glasgow nightclub on Saturday night, following Rangers' postponed SPL game at St Johnstone.

The club would not elaborate on McGregor's condition, though his injuries are not thought to threaten his place in the team for Sunday's Old Firm derby.

A Rangers spokesman said: "We are aware of an incident involving Allan McGregor in the city centre and we have no further comment to make."

Strathclyde Police said they had received no report of any incident involving the player, who was last month at the centre of an investigation into claims he had sexually assaulted a woman, something he branded "a vile lie".

McGregor was expected to be named in Craig Levein's first squad since becoming Scotland manager on Monday morning.

The keeper has not played for his country since he and former Rangers team-mate Barry Ferguson were handed lifetime bans for their part in the 'Boozegate' affair.

The pair were dropped from the Scotland team for last April's World Cup qualifier with Iceland after indulging in an early-hours drinking session at the team hotel.

They then flicked V-signs at photographers while sat on the bench during the game.
