There are growing fears that Monaco midfielder Jeremy Menez could be forced to go under the surgeon's knife.

Menez has been suffering with a groin injury since February and there is little sign of the problem improving.

He will have more treatment over the next fortnight before a decision is made on whether to send him for an operation.

If Menez does require surgery it is likely that he would be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

That would rule Menez out of the rest of the season and also mean he was unavailable for Euro 2008.

The talented 20-year-old, linked with Manchester United and Liverpool last summer, was called into Raymond Domenech's France squad earlier in the season and would have been hoping to feature in this summer's competition.

"We met a specialist and we decided to go on with treatment for another ten days or two weeks," said Monaco doctor Philippe Kuentz.

"At the end of that period, if the results are not very good, there will be a surgery. That would mean a six or eight week rehabilitation period."
