Second Division outfit Metz put paid to Valenciennes' League Cup ambitions with a 2-0 success.

Pascal Johansen fired them in front from the penalty spot after 63 minutes and Cheik Gueye made sure two minutes from time.

Sedan replicated the achievements of their Ligue 2 rivals by seeing off Auxerre 3-1.

Jean-Pascal Mignot (60) cancelled out Alexis Allart's 10th minute opener, but Damien Tiberi restored Sedan's lead in the 67th minute.

Marcus Mokaka then put the seal on a memorable success in stoppage-time.

Le Mans marched on after they saw off Nimes 3-0.

Belgian forward Roland Lamah broke the deadlock after 62 minutes, before Badara Sene added a second after 78 minutes.

Madibo Maiga then put the seal on a comfortable night's work in stoppage-time.

St Etienne were convincing winners over Nice, easing to a 4-1 victory.

The result was beyond doubt before half-time, with Gonzalo Bergessio (23), Boubacar Sanogo (28) and Christophe Landrin (37) on target.

Bergessio then bagged his second of the game after 81 minutes, before Loic Remy snatched a consolation for Nice five minutes from time.

Nancy and Monaco played out a close encounter at Stade Marcel Picot, with the hosts claiming a 2-0 win.

Julien Feret opened the scoring after 13 minutes and Issiar Dia made the result safe nine minutes from time.

Rennes left it late before seeing off Sochaux 2-1.

Ryad Boudebouz appeared to have ended their cup dreams, but goals from Romain Danze (74) and Kader Mangane (83) sealed an impressive comeback.

Paris St Germain were pushed all the way by Boulogne, but were able to escape with a 1-0 success.

Jean-Eudes Maurice grabbed the only goal of the game on the hour mark.

Montpellier and Lens played out a seven-goal thriller which required extra-time to find a winner.

Toifilou Maoulida had Lens in front after just three minutes, but Gregory Lacombe (10 & 45) and Karim Ait-Fana (69) turned the tie on its head.

The visitors fought back in style, though, and levelled through Romain Sarte (73) and Razak Boukari (88).

Sarte then pounced again after 101 minutes to round off an enthralling contest.
