Defending champions Bordeaux moved to the top of Ligue 1 as previous leaders Lyon suffered a shock defeat at Nice.

Bottom-of-the-table Grenoble are still awaiting a first point of the season, while Monaco are up to second after winning at Boulogne as Montpellier lost at Rennes.

Bordeaux followed up a win over Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League by easing to a 3-0 home success over Le Mans on their return to domestic action.

The opening goal arrived after just four minutes in fortunate circumstances when Yoan Gouffran's shot came back off the post and rebounded into the net off Le Mans keeper Didier Orono.

Laurent Blanc's side had to wait until midway through the second half for their second goal when Marouane Chamakh headed home Yoann Gourcuff's corner.

Former Manchester United misfit David Bellion completed the scoring on 83 minutes as the substitute was set up to score by Benoit Tremoulinas.

Lyon relinquished their grip on top spot after being hammered 4-1 at Nice, who had started the day second from bottom in the table.

Mamadou Bagayoko headed Nice in front on 17 minutes and Aly Cissokho's own goal doubled the lead before half-time.

David Hellebuyck was played in by Anthony Munier for the third goal on 69 minutes and Loic Remy made it 4-0 with 15 minutes to go.

Ederson scored a consolation in the 84th minute for Lyon, who were a pale imitation of the team which had won 2-1 at Liverpool in midweek.

Montpellier missed the chance to go top after suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat away to Rennes.

The hosts took the lead on 34 minutes after Sylvain Marveaux was teed up by Jerome Leroy, who created the second goal for Moussa Sow five minutes after half-time.

Rennes put the icing on the cake in the fourth minute of stoppage-time when Asamoah Gyan fired into the top corner.

Grenoble suffered a 10th consecutive defeat as Nancy came from behind to claim a 2-1 success thanks to Youssouf Hadji's late penalty.

Danijel Ljuboja put Grenoble ahead on 53 minutes, only for the luckless hosts to be hauled level by David Jemmali's own goal on 74 minutes.

Nancy stole the points two minutes from time when Hadji converted from the spot after Bostjan Cesar had brought down Issiar Dia.

Monaco are just one point off the top of the table as a late brace of Nene free-kicks earned a 3-1 victory at 10-man Boulogne.

Park Chu-young fired Monaco ahead on 36 minutes and, two minutes later, Boulogne had Kevin Das Neves sent off following a challenge on Alejandro Alonso.

Boulogne levelled on 66 minutes through Jeremy Blayac's header, but Nene fired a free-kick into the top corner on 86 minutes before repeating the trick four minutes into stoppage-time.

Sochaux ground out a 1-0 home win over Lorient with Damien Perquis' header from Marvin Martin's free-kick on seven minutes settling the contest.

Valenciennes gained a 2-0 success at St Etienne as Johan Audel and David Ducourtioux supplied the goals.

Audel finished off Renaud Cohade's pass on 16 minutes and Ducourtioux made sure of the points in injury-time after being teed up by Fahid Ben Khalfallah.
