Planus: Bordeaux's match-winner
Bordeaux extended their lead at the top to two points after a 1-0 victory over title-rivals Monaco in Saturday's Ligue 1 action.
A Marc Planus goal was all that was necessary for the French champions to secure the win on home soil as Laurent Blanc's team took a crucial three-points off one of the pretenders to their thrown.
Defender Planus applied the easiest of finishes as he poked the ball home in the 62nd minute after visiting goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier had parried a Marouane Chamakh header.
Monaco hardly had a sniff as the hosts bossed the game in midfield with France playmaker Yoann Gourcuff the man who can take the plaudits for a fine display.
Bordeaux now have 25 points from 11 matches, with Monaco slipping to third after Lyon rose a place into second spot after claiming maximum points in a 1-0 win over arch-rivals St Etienne.
Bafetimbi Gomis' 83rd minute strike proved the difference on the night as Lyon now focus their attention on the crucial UEFA Champions League show-down against Premier League giants Liverpool in midweek.
Ten-man Nancy closed in on the European places after they stole a late winner to beat Boulogne.
Nancy took the lead through Issiar Dia but were quickly pegged back by Alexandre Cuvillier before the game looked destined for a draw.
Nancy, were then saw Jordan Loties given an early bath with 13 minutes to go, but rallied to a last-gasp victory when Youssouf Hadji nodded in the winner with seven minutes left.
Brazilian striker Brandao rescued a 1-1 draw for Marseille at home to Toulouse, who had to play with 10 men for over 80 minutes.
The visitors grabbed the lead through France midfielder Moussa Sissoko despite being a man short after Toulouse shot-stopper Yohann Pele received his marching orders after eight minutes following a rough tackle on striker Mamadou Niang.
But the away supporters had reason to cheer when Sissoko's unstoppable free-kick fizzed into the net 19 minutes later.
Toulouse's hopes of a dream win were dashed when Marseille snatched a point 15 minutes from time as Brandao found the desired finish to Ivory Coast striker Bakary Kone's cross.
Auxerre continued their rich vein of form as they recorded their fifth straight victory and moved up to fifth with a 2-1 home success against surprise package Montpellier, who were beaten for the second game in a row.
Bottom club Grenoble's search for a points continues after they stayed on zero thanks to a 2-0 defeat at home to Lille, while Lens and Lorient played out a 1-1 draw.
