Montpellier reduced the deficit at the top of Ligue 1 after winning away to Boulogne while leaders Bordeaux slipped up at Rennes.

The champions went down 4-2 at Route de Lorient and at one stage found themselves three goals behind through strikes from Sylvain Marveux, Jimmy Briand and Ismael Bangoura.

Yoan Gouffran and Brazilian substitute Wendel threatened a comeback from Bordeaux, but Ghana international Asamoah Gyan restored comfort for the home side with 12 minutes remaining.

Earlier in the day, title chasers Montpellier grabbed a 2-0 win over relegation candidates Boulogne with a goal in either half from Souleymane Camara and Victor Hugo Montano.

Lille missed the chance to also close the gap on Laurent Blanc's side as they were held to a 1-1 draw with lowly Nice.

Nice took the lead early through Chaouki Ben Saada before substitute Vinicius De Melo spared the away side's blushes with a 74th minute equaliser.

One of the biggest shocks of the day came at Stade del Alpes where basement club Grenoble thumped Europe-chasing Auxerre 5-0.

A brace apiece from Japanese midfielder Daisuke Matsui and veteran striker Nassim Akrour ensured an emphatic win after Danijel Ljuboja had opened the scoring after just seven minutes.

Lorient ensured Paris St Germain's miserable season continued as they triumphed 3-0 at the Parc des Princes.

The goals all came in an explosive 13 minute spell in the first half as Marama Vahirua, Kevin Gameiro and Morgan Amalfitano condemned the home side to their 10th defeat of the season.

Mid-table duo Sochaux and Nancy played out a 1-1 draw at Aguste-Bonal to remain in 13th and 12th position, respectively.

Issiar Dia gave the away side the lead but former Tottenham midfielder Stephane Dalmat evened up the contest early in the second period.

Meanwhile, RC Lens pulled further away from the relegation zone as they inflicted defeat upon Le Mans, who now lie four points from safety.
