Lyon boosted their title hopes by defeating Nice as Montpellier beat Rennes and Monaco returned to winning ways against Boulogne.

Lyon extended their unbeaten run to seven games and closed to within two points of leaders Bordeaux with a 2-0 victory at home to lowly Nice.

Lisandro Lopez broke the deadlock in the 9th minute but the points were not safe until Onyekachi Apam put through his own net in the 90th minute.

Montpellier are level on points with Bordeaux after cruising to a 3-1 win over Rennes in the day's late game.

Joris Marveaux scored twice in the first half (25 and 36) before Jimmy Briand reduced Rennes' arrears in the 70th minute.

Montpellier were not to be denied and Souleymane Camara restored their two-goal cushion eight minutes from the end.

Monaco had slipped back to seventh following three consecutive defeats and they were made to work for a 1-0 success over second bottom Boulogne.

Moussa Maazou netted the only goal of the game four minutes before half-time to get Monaco's European bid back on track.

Bottom club Grenoble remain 13 points adrift of safety despite claiming an impressive 2-0 win away to Nancy.

Yoric Ravet opened the scoring in the 13th minute and then found the target again with 12 minutes remaining to seal the triumph.

In-form Valenciennes beat St Etienne 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Johan Audel.

Kevin Dupuis was the star of the show for Toulouse as he struck 14 minutes from time in their 1-0 victory over Lens.

Lorient were also 1-0 winners against Sochaux courtesy of a Sigamary Diarra effort in the 34th minute.
