Monaco are closing in on the capture of highly-rated centre-forward Dieumerci Mbokani.

The 24-year-old is currently on the books of Standard Liege, but has been attracting interest for some time.

Monaco are wary of releasing too much information at present regarding the deal they have put in place, as they fear a late move from another of Europe's top clubs could leave them empty-handed.

It has been reported that the likes of Hamburg and Liverpool have also shown an interest in Mbokani this summer.

It is, however, Monaco who are in pole position to sign the Congo international and they are confident they will get their man.

Springboard

Mbokani was at Stade Louis II for medical tests on Friday and coach Guy Lacombe is hoping his pursuit of the African ace will now be pushed through without a hitch.

"I told him what I expected from him," Lacombe told L'Equipe.

"I explained that Monaco could be a great springboard for him.

"If he can be a success here, he can be a success anywhere."
