Champions Bordeaux eased past lowly Nancy 3-0 at Marcel-Picot to take them to the top of Ligue 1.

Menegazzo opened the scoring for the visitors in the 24th minute before second-half strikes from Wendel and Yoan Gouffran sealed the win for Laurent Blanc's men.

Meanwhile Lyon missed out on the chance to go level on points with Bordeaux at the top when they were held 1-1 at home to Rennes.

The visitors took an early lead in the 14th minute when Asamoah Gyan fired home. However Lyon striker Lisandro Lopez saved the hosts blushes with a 42nd minute equaliser.

Lyon moved second ahead of Auxerre while Rennes sit mid-table, eight points off the top.

At the bottom St Etienne were denied what would have been a valuable three points by former Liverpool man Anthony Le Tallec, now at Le Mans.

Ilan gave the visitors the lead in the 17th minute but Les Verts were pegged back when Le Tallec struck for Le Mans with 18 minutes remaining.

The result leaves St Etienne one place above the bottom three while Le Mans are 18th, four points worse off than their opponents.
