Paris St Germain goalkeeper Gregory Coupet could be out for the rest of the season after fracturing his leg on Saturday.

Coupet suffered the injury in the 1-0 victory over Auxerre as he got his studs caught in the turf trying to make a clearance.

PSG boss Antoine Kombouare admitted it was a major blow to lose the experienced former France international.

"It's definitely a fracture of the left leg," Kombouare said after seeing his keeper leave the pitch on a stretcher in the 82nd minute.

"He went straight to hospital and we'll know more about how serious it is on Sunday.

"He'll be unavailable for a long time and it will be very complicated (to get him back before the end of the season).

"It's a very serious injury, it's shocking. It sends a chill down your spine. We're losing a great player and a big leader."

PSG left-back Sylvain Armand described the sickening event in more detail, saying: "I was close to the incident and I saw the bone poke through his sock."

Club president Robin Leproux said Coupet's injury had overshadowed the match.

"Greg's injury completely ruins the evening," he said. "It affects us massively."
