Montpellier's 100 per cent record came to an end at the hands of Lyon, while Auxerre were big winners against Ajaccio.

Montpellier were the only side to have won their opening three matches of the season but they could not carry that momentum forward as they went down 2-1 to Lyon.

Miralem Pjanic opened the scoring early in the second half and Jeremy Pied made it 2-0 with seven minutes remaining.

Henri Bedimo pulled a late goal back for Montpellier but there was not enough time for them to force an equaliser.

Montpellier remain top, one point ahead of Lyon ahead of Sunday's action, while Lorient moved into the top five courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Nancy.

Djamal Bakar gave Nancy a first-half lead but Lorient piled on the pressure in the last 15 minutes and were rewarded with an equaliser from Arnold Mvuemba before Yann Jouffre snatched all three points

Auxerre claimed their first win of the Ligue 1 season with a 4-1 victory against newly-promoted Ajaccio.

The home side dominated proceedings and the scoreboard reflected that with Alain Traore scoring twice, and Kamel Chafni and Anthony Le Tallec also on target.

Araujo Ilan netted a late consolation but it was not enough for Ajaccio, who have yet to win since their return to the top flight.

Valenciennes' poor start to the Ligue 1 season continued as two goals in the last 10 minutes saw Bordeaux come from behind to snatch their first victory of the campaign.

Valenciennes headed into the match having managed just one point and one goal in their first three games, and with coach Daniel Sanchez calling for them to respond with 'fury' - and they looked set to pick up their first win when Mathieu Dossevi put them ahead in the first half at the Stade du Hainaut.

But two substitutes turned things around for Les Girondins, Abdou Traore equalising nine minutes from time and then Anthony Modeste prodding home in stoppage time to earn Francis Gillot's side their first triumph of the campaign.

Substitute Brice Jovial scored the only goal as Dijon won a battle of two of Ligue 1's newly-promoted sides at Evian.

Nice striker Xavier Pentecote had a second-half goal controversially ruled offside as the southern strugglers' wait for a win continued with a 0-0 draw against Brest.
