Former Italy coach Marcello Lippi has played down talk linking him with the vacant manager's job at Valencia.

Lippi is thought to be on Valencia's shortlist to replace Quique Sanchez Flores following his sacking on Sunday.

Former Juventus boss Lippi has been out of work since guiding Italy to World Cup success in 2006 and he insists he is in no rush to return to management.

In the dark

"I don't know where these stories have come from.

"I haven't spoken to anyone at Valencia and I have never said I would be interested in moving there.

"At the moment I am only thinking about spending more time in Italy with my family. There will come a time when I will return to work, but right now I am in no hurry."

Prestigious
Meanwhile, Valencia have revealed they are looking for a high-profile replacement for Sanchez Flores.

"Our objective is to sign a prestigious, top-level coach that has won things and has the necessary charisma to take charge of Valencia," Valencia sporting director Miguel Angel Ruiz told Marca.

"Of course, the coach has to want to come to Valencia but I don't think there are too many coaches who would turn their nose up at the prospect of coaching Valencia."
