Emery: Mestalla-bound
Unai Emery has admitted that leaving Almeria was a difficult decision but that he could not resist the challenge of taking over at a club like Valencia.
The 36-year-old coach has put pen-to-paper on a two-year contract at the Mestalla, but he was quick to state that it was not an easy choice.
"The actual decision was delayed a lot by the circumstances and I want to apologise to all those people that may have been made to feel uncomfortable about this," he told Marca.
"In truth, it has not been an easy decision, in fact completely the opposite.
"I only have words of gratitude for everyone including the president, the board, the players, the coaching staff, the fans and the media. I have been made to feel really at home in Almeria."
Valencia have been after a new coach since Ronald Koeman was sacked last month, with caretaker boss Voro doing well to steer the club away from relegation troubles in the final few games of the campaign.
Emery emerged as a favourite for the post after a very impressive season with Almeria and he is relishing the chance to prove himself.
"Now I will always carry the club in my heart and I will continue to visit the many friends that I have here, without doubt," he continued.
"I am sure that Almeria will continue on an upwards spiral, but I could not resist the challenge at Valencia."
