Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan is expected to be out for four weeks with a thigh injury.

Forlan suffered the injury during Atletico's 3-0 win over PSV Eindhoven in Tuesday's UEFA Champions League group game.

The Uruguayan was replaced just past the half-hour mark by Florent Sinama-Pongolle and tests have show there is a tear to his thigh muscle.

The Spanish side's coach Javier Aguirre admits Forlan's injury took some of the gloss off an impressive European success in Eindhoven.

"We do not have complete happiness because of the injury to Diego Forlan," Aguirre told reporters.

"He came back from Uruguay and has suffered bad luck. Hopefully he can recover soon because he is an important player for the team."

Forlan will miss Atletico's second Champions League tie with Marseille and is facing a race against time to be fit for the visit of Liverpool on 22nd October.
