Atletico Madrid have warned Manchester City they would be wasting their time in pursuing Sergio Aguero.

The Argentina international is one of Europe's most highly-rated talents, adapting to life in the Primera Liga with ease since a move from Independiente two years ago.

Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Chelsea have been linked with the 20-year-old in the past, while Manchester City have also joined the hunt following the arrival of their new billionaire owners.

City and Chelsea were believed to have sent scouts to watch the youngster in action against Getafe on Wednesday, keen to determine whether the striker is worth his £47.6million buy-out clause.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo is not worried by the mounting interest, though, and feels Aguero would reject the chance to move to England even if a suitable offer was received.

Guarantee

"I don't know what the people from Chelsea or Manchester City were doing in Getafe. I don't know," he told Marca.

"The truth is they told me they were looking for Cristiano Ronaldo, but I don't know if they found him.

"What should I know? City haven't even asked about 'El Kun' so how do I know what they want?

"What I do know and what I can guarantee is that Kun Aguero wants to be in Madrid, he wants to play for Atletico Madrid and he wants to live here in Madrid."

Weather

Cerezo does, however, concede that the rumours surrounding Aguero's future look set to continue.

"We're used to stories of this nature and I suppose they won't stop here today, they'll keep coming out," he said.

"But here we have the sun, good weather, a great team, phenomenal supporters and a marvellous coach."

Injury blow

Meanwhile, Atletico look set to be without Portuguese playmaker Simao Sabrosa for a minimum of three weeks after the winger sustained a knee injury against Getafe.

The problem is expected to keep the former Benfica man out of crunch league clashes with Real Madrid and Sevilla, while also preventing him from representing his country in the latest round of World Cup qualifiers.

Having undergone medical tests on the problematic area club doctors are hoping Simao will be back in action by the time Atletico travel to Liverpool for a UEFA Champions League game on 4th November.

For now though, the 28-year-old joins Maniche and Diego Forlan on the Vicente Calderon treatment table.
