Ramos: Back in business
Former Spain goalkeeper Santiago Canizares believes new Real Madrid boss Juande Ramos was misunderstood at Tottenham.
Just six weeks after being sacked by Spurs following a dismal start to their league campaign, Ramos has returned to Spain as head coach at the Bernabeu.
The former Sevilla boss had enjoyed an impressive managerial career in his native country before his troubled stint in the Premier League.
Back in familiar surroundings, Canizares believes his fellow countryman can achieve glory once again after an unsettling spell at White Hart Lane.
"The British mentality is very different to the one Spanish people have and when he (Ramos) tried to introduce his methods at Tottenham, he wasn't able to get the players to believe in him," said Canizares.
"A coach comes in with different methods and especially in a different country, in this case Juande in England.
"He obviously tried to introduce his methods and his way of working, but sometimes that clashes directly with the mentality of the players."
The retired stopper heaped praise on Ramos' managerial achievements which he claims can be built upon with such a quality team at his disposal.
"I think he's a coach who works really well, who has good people around him," he added.
"He has a good team of professionals to work on all aspects of preparation and tactics, all of that is very important and that is how I judge a good coach, by the people he has around him."
