Edu: Generating interest
Valencia midfielder Edu is reported to be attracting interest from the Premier League.
The Brazilian spent four years with Arsenal between 2001 and 2005, making over 100 appearances for the Gunners.
He moved to Spain as a free agent, but has endured horrendous injury problems since arriving in the Primera Liga.
Despite his problems, though, the 30-year-old is still regarded as a more than competent exponent of the holding midfield role.
With that in mind, and with Lassana Diarra having recently completed a big-money move to Real Madrid, Portsmouth are said to be one of the sides showing an interest ahead of the January transfer window.
Valencia's sporting director Fernando Gomez admits that a New Year departure may be on the cards for Edu, but confirmed that the club are yet to receive a formal approach.
"Some clubs have asked about Edu but we have not received any formal offers regarding his exit in January," he said.
"I do not know about Portsmouth but his agent has some options and a meeting is possible to discuss this. The decision depends on coach Unai Emery."
Edu's brother and agent Jean Fabian Cesar also refused to rule out the possibility of a switch to England, but was quick to point out that an agreement remains some way off.
"There is interest from some clubs in Edu but I await more news and after that I will speak with Valencia," he stated.
"English football is always very interesting and nothing is discarded."
