Nikola Zigic has escaped his Valencia nightmare by joining Racing Santander on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Serbia international has spent 18 unproductive months at the Mestalla following his 2007 switch from Racing.

He has found first-team opportunities hard to come by, making only three starts in the Primera Liga last season and none so far this term.

The 28-year-old has also scored just one goal for Los Che during that time, spectacularly failing to live up to his 20million euros (£19.5m) price tag.

However, the towering front-man is hoping a return to familiar surroundings will help him to rediscover his touch and confidence in front of goal.

"This club and Santander feel like home," he said.

"I only want to look forward now. I am looking forward to scoring goals."
