Barcelona have denied reports that Manchester City have lodged a big-money bid for Yaya Toure.

The Premier League outfit have made no secret of their desire to bolster their squad during the January transfer window and can boast the substantial financial backing of the Abu Dhabi United Group.

The Eastlands outfit have already been linked with a host of top names, with boss Mark Hughes admitting he has keen to get a further five fresh faces on board over the coming weeks.

There had been rumours that Ivory Coast international Toure was on City's shopping list, but Barcelona have rejected claims that an approach has already been made.

"We have not received any formal offers for Yaya Toure," a club spokesman told skysports.com.

Arsenal and Juventus have also been linked with the combative midfielder in the past, with Barca spurning the Gunners' advances over the summer.
