Valdes: Backing for referees
Victor Valdes has claimed that nobody at Barcelona has talked about the ongoing reports of them receiving help from referees during matches by the Madrid-based media.
The Blaugrana goalkeeper was asked about the Villarato effect, a catchword in the press that plays on the rumour that Spanish Football Federation president Angel Maria Villar favours the club.
While several Real Madrid players have voiced their opposition to the reports too, Valdes was once more asked for his opinion on whether Barcelona are treated more kindly by the officials.
"It is not logical to question the work of referees," he explained. "We do not want to do that and instead we dedicate ourselves to working every day to win the next three points.
"This never comes up at any point and is something that we should not consider anymore."
Valdes then reflected on why Barca have been able to remain unbeaten so far this season in the league and praised coach Pep Guardiola and the system he plays.
"It is because of the insistence of the trainer that we can never relax and the talent of the players, especially in defence," he said.
"The system also helps a lot and we work on that every day."
