Jeffren has become the latest Barcelona player to commit his long-term future to the Catalan club.

The promising winger has penned a two-year extension to his contract, tying him to the European champions until 2012.

The 22-year-old's current deal was set to expire at the end of the season, but he becomes the ninth member of the fold to prolong their stay at Camp Nou this term.

Jeffren joined Barca from Tenerife in 2004, becoming a key figure in their famed academy ranks.

He was strongly linked with a move away from the Primera Liga giants last summer, with Wigan, Everton, Blackburn, Arsenal, Tottenham, Celtic and Racing Santander all reported to be interested, but will now remain part of Pep Guardiola's first-team plan for the foreseeable future.

The former Spain U21 international has also seen the release clause in his contract increased to €10million (£8.7m).

Yaya Toure, Victor Valdes, Pedro, Lionel Messi, Carles Puyol, Eric Abidal, Andres Iniesta and Rafael Marquez have all extended their stay at Barca this season, while Guardiola has also agreed fresh terms.
