Barcelona defender Eric Abidal admits he would be happy to end his career at Camp Nou.

Abidal has two years to run on his current contract and the Frenchman is keen on winning an extension.

The 31-year-old admits if he failed to win fresh terms he would hang up his boots rather than play anywhere else.

"If the club were to propose a renewal of my Barca contract, I'd gladly accept the proposal," Abidal told El Mundo Deportivo.

"Otherwise I'll stop playing football and I will enjoy my victories and my family. I want to end my career here."

Abidal, who plays at left-back for Barca, admits his best position is as a central defender even though Barca coach Pep Guardiola has confidence in him at full-back.

"Guardiola has spoken with me and they have confidence in me at left-back, but I am a better central defender," added Abidal.

Return to fitness

Meanwhile, Barcelona captain Carles Puyol could return to action in next week's UEFA Champions League clash against Panathinaikos after injury.

Puyol, who was forced to miss Spain's recent games against Liechtenstein and Argentina because of the leg injury, will miss this weekend's Primera Liga clash with Hercules.

But he is making good progress with the problem and he could be available for the opening encounter with Panathinaikos.

"Each day I am better and my sensations are positive," Puyol told his Twitter followers.
