Bayern Munich have poured cold water on claims they were interested in signing Mesut Ozil or Sami Khedira.

Both players starred in Germany's run to the semi-finals of the World Cup which prompted Real Madrid to acquire their services.

Khedira made the move to Santiago Bernabeu from Stuttgart while Ozil joined from Werder Bremen and Bayern director of sport Christian Nerlinger has denied the Bundesliga giants were after the midfield duo.

"We did not get to the stage where we wanted to talk to them or even make an offer because we were not convinced that they would make it to the top level," Nerlinger told Kicker magazine.

Bayern, who have become known for signing the cream of German talent, were rumoured to have already reached an agreement with Khedira but Nerlinger has rubbished those reports.

"If FC Bayern wants a player, then we are absolutely capable of signing him or keeping hold of him," he added, claiming he would have had "no fear" of entering a bidding war with Real.

"We are 100 per cent convinced with (Toni) Kroos in the attacking midfield position and (Thomas) Muller has risen like a shooting star in that position."
