AZ Alkmaar have completed the signing of United States international Jozy Altidore from Villarreal.

The former Hull City loanee has signed a four-year contract with the Eredivisie club after failing to make the breakthrough in Spain.

The 21-year-old is excited by the challenge that awaits at AZ and is looking to progress his fledgling career in Holland.

"I am very happy everything is worked out now," he told the club's official website. "This is an exciting time.

"I now really have a home, after I have been loaned out to a number a clubs across Europe the last year.

Fair chance

"I hope to have a fair chance and want to make the next step in my career at AZ.

"Everywhere that I've played the Dutch league can be followed. It's a league with quite a lot of talent."

AZ's technical director Earnie Stewart, a ex-USA international, has confirmed Altidore had been on the club's radar for some time.

"Jozy was on our scouting list for years. He is a young, strong player with very much potential," explained Stewart.

"He's now chosen AZ to give his career a new impetus. We are very happy with that."
