David Villa prioritised helping Spain to victory against Scotland above equalling Raul's goalscoring record.
The Barcelona striker converted a penalty to open the scoring in his country's eventual 3-2 Euro 2012 qualifying victory at Hampden Park on Tuesday night.
Villa's strike allowed him to draw level with Raul's record total of 44 goals for Spain, but he insists the three points were the main aim.
The forward, who is a doubt for Saturday's meeting with former club Valencia after sustaining a knee problem against Scotland, told reporters: "I am happy with the goal but mainly with our victory."
He added: "I was never obsessed with the 44th goal in my career. And now my objective is not the 45th but to keep playing to get more chances for many goals."
