Jermaine Pennant is hoping to fulfil his 'dream' of playing in Spain by securing a move away from Liverpool.

The 25-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular first-team place at Anfield following his arrival from Birmingham in 2006.

This season, with the Reds flying high in the Premier League, the winger has been restricted to just two top-flight starts.

Understandably disappointed at being forced to kick his heels on the sidelines, Pennant has been strongly linked with a New Year switch away from Merseyside.

Speculation has suggested that a move to Spain is a distinct possibility, with Primera Liga giants Real Madrid believed to have expressed an interest.

Pennant is said to be reluctant to move to the Santiago Bernabeu for fear of finding himself fulfilling back-up duties once again, but may welcome a move to Real's capital rivals Atletico - who are also reported to be keen on the former Arsenal man.

"I want to play on a regular basis and my dream is to do that in Spain," he said.

"My style of play would fit into the Spanish way."
