Ramon Calderon has intimated Real Madrid will not be bidding for Milan star Kaka at the end of the season.

Kaka has been a long-term target for Calderon, who vowed to sign the Brazilian when he was elected Real president in 2006.

Milan have been steadfast in their determination to hang on to the current World Footballer of the Year, who was a key figure in last season's UEFA Champions League success.

This summer, though, the Italian giants may find that Real are not ready to test their resolve after Calderon revealed coach Bernd Schuster and sporting director Predrag Mijatovic have not told him to bid for Kaka.

Calderon told Marca: "This is not the best time to talk about transfers. At the end of the season we will see.

"Any signing must fit three criteria, firstly that the coach and sport director want him, secondly that he fits the behaviour and philosophy of the club, and thirdly that he can help the team become better.

"With Kaka the first criteria is not met. I have not asked either Schuster or Mijatovic."
