The Italian Footballers' Association (AIC) has proposed a strike for the first day of the lower league season, and Serie A and B games could also be affected.

Italian authorities have angered the AIC by setting a limit on the number of players allowed in squads in Lega Pro, the new name of Serie C1 and C2.

It is claimed the move will prevent further clubs from running into financial difficulties after a number folded last year, but the AIC says hundreds of players will, therefore, be at risk of unemployment.

And a lower league strike has now been planned for 31st August and it is claimed AIC members in Serie A and B will also delay the start of their games by 30 minutes.

A statement on the AIC's official website said: "On the first day of the season, Serie A and B teams will take the field 30 minutes late as a sign of solidarity."
