Jose Mourinho recorded his first win as Inter Milan coach as Roma suffered a sound beating away to Palermo.

After drawing at Sampdoria in his opening Serie A match in charge, Mourinho was keen for Inter to claim three points from his first home game at the helm against Catania.

The visitors briefly threatened to spoil the Mourinho party at the Giuseppe Meazza when Gianvito Piasmati put Catania in front on 42 minutes.

But within 60 seconds, Inter were level when new signing Ricardo Quaresma marked his debut for the club with the equaliser.

Fellow summer recruit Sulley Muntari was then sent off for Inter, but Christian Terlizzi's own goal early in the second half handed the reigning champions a battling success.

Roma are still awaiting their first victory of the new Serie A season after slipping to a 3-1 away defeat by Palermo.

Julio Baptista gave Roma the perfect start when he capped a flowing move from the visitors with the opening goal on eight minutes.

Fabrizio Miccoli levelled on 20 minutes before putting Palermo ahead early in the second period, with Edison Cavani grabbing the third goal on 73 minutes.
