Galliani: Denied rift

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has denied a rift within the club as the Rossoneri go in search of their first Serie A win of the season against Lazio on Sunday.

The Italian giants have lost their opening two league games this season, leading to mounting pressure on coach Carlo Ancelotti.

There has also been speculation that Ancelotti and the club's management were not united on Milan's summer transfer policy, in particular the signing of striker Marco Borriello from Genoa.

But Galliani has dismissed this speculation and insisted that everyone is working together for the good of the club.

His comments come as Milan registered a 3-1 Uefa Cup victory over FC Zurich on Thursday to go into Sunday's game at the San Siro with something to build on.

The vice-president told the club's TV station: "There was never any issue between the management, the players and the coach.

Ridiculous rumour

"That's a ridiculous rumour that some players were chosen by Ancelotti and others by the club.

"All the players, exceptional, average and good, were purchased with the agreement of the coach.

"There were no disagreements, in the end if everyone was not agreed, the acquisitions couldn't have gone through."

He strongly refuted that Borriello was a management choice, rather than Ancelotti's.

"He was wanted by everyone here at Milan. He had the right characteristics for our style of play and to compliment his team-mates," he said.

Confidence

Sunday's visitors Lazio are the early league leaders and coach Delio Rossi is full of confidence ahead of the match.

"We're going to Milan in good shape to play a team that probably didn't expect to start the match behind us in the league," said Rossi.

"But we can't go there to be sacrificial lambs or to be part of the solution to Milan's problems.

"I'm sure it will be a match between two top level teams and I'm looking forward to see how we react."
