Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is set to be sidelined for around two months.

Buffon sustained a muscle tear in his right leg in Sunday's clash with Palermo and was forced to withdraw from the Italy squad.

It was initially thought that the shot-stopper would be out of action for around a month but scans have now shown the extent of the injury.

The 30-year-old will begin physiotherapy as soon as possible but has been told that he is not likely to return until December.

Palermo's Marco Amelia is set to line up between the posts for Italy in their World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Montenegro.

Alex Manninger will cover for Buffon at Juve but Claudio Ranieri will be disappointed to lose such an experienced player.

Juve have made a poor start to the season and are currently 11th in the Serie A table.
