AC Milan are sweating on the fitness of David Beckham after he sustained an injury in training.

The England international twisted his right ankle on Tuesday and will require further examinations in order to distinguish the full extent of the problem.

While it remains unclear as to how serious the injury may be, Milan will be hoping the experienced midfielder will be available for Sunday's trip to Siena.

With 2010 World Cup qualifying also set to resume at the end of the month, Beckham will not want to be sidelined for long.

Milan have yet to comment on the severity of the injury, releasing a short statement which only serves to confirm the knock.

"During today's training, David Beckham suffered a slight trauma to his right ankle," said the club on their official website.

"His condition will be monitored over the course of the next few days."
