Inter held by Palermo as Lazio beat Roma
Inter Milan were held to a 2-2 draw by Palermo, while Lazio won an extraordinary Rome derby.
An upset did not look on the cards at
Inter Milan when Mario Balotelli broke the deadlock on 15 minutes and Zlatan Ibrahimovic added a second from the penalty spot before half-time.
But
Palermo produced a battling display to snatch a point thanks to goals from Edison Cavani and Davide Succi in the second half.
Second-placed
Juventus could not capitalise on Inter's slip-up and now trail the league leaders by ten points following a 3-2 defeat at
Genoa in the evening match.
A brace from Thiago Motta helped Genoa to establish a 2-1 lead at half-time, with Alessandro Del Piero's strike keeping Juventus in the game.
Mauro Camoranesi was sent off for Juve midway through the second half but it appeared as though Vincenzo Iaquinta had earned a point for Claudio Ranieri's side when he netted on 84 minutes.
However, there was still time for Raffaele Palladino to pop up and not only clinch Genoa's fourth successive victory, but also deal a huge blow to Juve's title hopes.
Lazio ended a three-match losing streak as they defeated
Roma 4-2 in a match which also saw three players red carded.
Goran Pandev and Mauro Zarate struck for Lazio inside the opening four minutes but their lead was trimmed when Philippe Mexes found the target for Roma.
Stephan Lichtsteiner made it 3-1 to Lazio and Aleksandar Kolarov then clinched the three points with four minutes to go after Daniele De Rossi had responded for Roma.
Mexes and Christian Panucci were both sent off for Roma, while Lazio's Francelino Matuzalem also received his marching orders.
Second-half goals from Manuel Pasqual and Juan Manuel Vargas helped
Fiorentina to a 2-1 success against
Cagliari.
Cagliari, who had Alessandro Agostini and Michele Canini sent off late on, got on the scoresheet through Daniele Ragatzu three minutes from time.
Third-placed
AC Milan extended their unbeaten run to five games as they overcame
Chievo 1-0.
Chievo had been in decent form going into the contest but left without a point after Clarence Seedorf's winner four minutes into the second half.
Bologna suffered a fourth straight defeat as they were thrashed 4-1 at home by
Siena.
Siena stormed into a 2-0 lead inside 11 minutes thanks to goals from Emanuele Calaio and Daniele Portanova, before Massimo Marazzina reduced Bologna's arrears.
Abdelkader Ghezzal made it 3-1 on 62 minutes and Houssine Kharja added gloss to the scoreline with a late strike.
There was more late drama as
Torino beat
Catania 2-1 to end a run of four straight defeats and climb out of the bottom three.
The score was still goalless with eight minutes remaining but former Manchester City striker Rolando Bianchi then fired Torino ahead.
Jorge Martinez equalised for Catania three minutes later, only for Cesare Natali to grab a last-gasp winner.
Sampdoria kept up their encouraging run with a 3-1 victory over lowly
Lecce.
Giampaolo Pazzini opened the scoring in the 11 minute and Antonio Cassano bagged a brace of penalties, while Fabio Caserta also scored from the spot for Lecce.
Napoli are now without a win in 13 matches after playing out a goalless draw with
Atalanta.
