Kaka: Scored Milan's second
AC Milan kept their title hopes alive at Catania while Juventus were held at home to struggling Lecce in Sunday's Serie A action.
Meanwhile Fiorentina beat Torino to boost their UEFA Champions League hopes, Palermo smashed Cagliari for five and Roma played out a goalless stalemate against Chievo.
AC Milan reduced the difference to seven points from leaders Inter Milan after securing a 2-0 win on their travels against Catania.
Filippo Inzaghi opened the scoring for the visiting side in the 27th minute scoring his 16th goal of the season before former World Player of the Year Kaka added a second six minutes into the second-half.
Juventus could only manage a 2-2 draw against Lecce at the Stadio Olimpico.
Axel Konen gave the visitors a surprise lead in the 11th minute after the striker stuck away Guillermo Glacomazzi's through-ball, but Claudio Ranieri's outfit equalised when Pavel Nedved found the back of the net.
Nedved added his second of the afternoon as the Old Lady marched ahead, but the Turin club were to be denied victory when Jose Castillo struck in the 90th minute to level the match.
Fiorentina stamped their credentials for a Champions League place next season with a 1-0 win over Torino with Juan Vargas netting in the 57th minute to secure the Viola victory.
Inconsistent Roma are far from secure in a Europa League spot after a 0-0 home draw with Chievo with the visitors seeing Giampiero Pinzi sent-off in stoppage time for a second-bookable offence.
Palermo smashed Cagliari 5-1 and leap-frog their opponents in the process.
Giulio Migliaccio scored his second goal of the campaign to put the home side ahead midway in the first-half before Fabrizio Miccoli doubled Palermo's advantage with a 37th minute free-kick.
Jeda looked to have given the away side hope two minutes into the second half, but the hosts put the tie to bed thanks to goals from Giovanni Tedesco, Edinson Cavani and Davide Succi.
Siena survived a late scare from Napoli to win 2-1 at home.
The hosts took the lead when midfielder Houssine Kharja's long-distance shot found the top corner on 11 minutes before former Middlesbrough striker added a second in the 25th minute.
Siena looked to be cruising until the 80th minute when Pia popped up with a goal, but the visitors were unable to find a second.
Udinese comfortably beat Atalanta 3-0 at home with Fabio Quagliarella scoring a brace and Giovanni Pasquale netting an injury-time third after Atlanta lost Gianpaolo Bellini saw red after picking up his second yellow card.
Genoa beat local rivals Sampdoria 3-1 in a dramatic final match of the day to boost their European hopes.
Diego Milito's opener after 31 minutes was cancelled out by a Hugo Campagnaro strike on the stroke of half-time.
Milito made it 2-1 to Genoa in the 73rd minute and then completed his hat-trick in the 90th minute.
Milito's third goal came at the end of a fiery five-minute period that had produced three red cards, with Matteo Ferrari and Thiago Motta sent off Genoa and Campagnaro dismissed for Samp.
