AC Milan have confirmed that England star David Beckham will rejoin the Serie A club on a six-month loan deal in January.

The midfielder is currently on the books of LA Galaxy, but he is set to return to Milan after spending time on loan at the San Siro last season.

Beckham has always been keen on a move back to Italy to improve his chances of earning a place in Fabio Capello's England squad for the 2010 World Cup.

He said: "I need to give myself the best chance possible to make the World Cup squad and playing for Milan on loan will help me to do that.

"I genuinely enjoyed my time at Milan and I look forward to meeting the players and staff again.

"I'm thankful to Tim Leiweke and Bruce Arena for allowing me this opportunity.

"I'm committed to LA Galaxy and MLS in the long term and remain as passionate as ever about growing the game of soccer in America.

Completely focused

"I'm completely focused on ending this season on a high note with my club by winning the MLS Cup."

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani told the club's official website: "We are very happy to see again David Beckham with the Rossoneri jersey after the splendid experience of last season.

"We are certain that this time in Europe will help the player take part in the next World Cup and to continue after his career in Los Angeles Galaxy, to whom we thank for their time.

"We are confident his loan spell will not only improve Milan, it will help the player to take part in the World Cup in South Africa and continue to enhance his career in North America with the LA Galaxy.

"We would like to thank the Galaxy and MLS for their co-operation and understanding."

A statement from LA Galaxy read: "We have today completed the loan agreement of midfielder David Beckham to AC Milan, effective in January.

Under contract

"Beckham remains under contract to the Galaxy and will play for the club throughout the MLS Cup play-offs, which continue on Sunday.

"In accordance with team and league regulations, details of the loan agreement were not released."

Beckham played for Milan for six months from January 2009 and scored two goals in 18 matches.

The 34-year-old's first Serie A game this season could be against Genoa at the San Siro on 6th January.

Ryan James (Liverpool fan) says...

I think Beckham will definitely go, I don't think he is any different now to what he was 5 years ago, he's never had a lot of pace, he still has the same asets now as he did 5 or 10 years ago, he puts in a great cross/free kick, is probably one of the best passers we have in the England squad and shows 110% every game. He has been fortunate with injuries and looks after himself well, therefore Capellos only issue can eb the level he plays at and obviously going to Milan will mean playing in a top leauge, all be it, a bit slower than the Premiership, but International football is slower and more tactical than the preimership so you don't need to run around like a lunatic. Becks will definitely go, unless unfit, Lennon was good before injury, SWP is inconsistent, Bentley is a waste of space, Young has potential, but I wouldn't say any of them have cemented the spot. Becks has to be in the squad!

Great move for AC Milan, England and Beckham. Definately a great platform for Beckham to prove to Capello his capabilities ahead of the World Cup.

I'm glad David Beckham has sealed his return to the 'Rossoneri'. It will undoubtably enhance his chances to be a part of Fabio Cappelo's squad for South Africa. Let's face it, Beckham is STILL the only consistent right sided English midfielder we have!..

I think this is the best move for Becks, he still has allot to offer England and I think he needs to be at the World Cup next year. He will get (in my view) the best fitness training from the best training team in European football.
