Juventus smashed five past Atalanta to strengthen their hold on second place, while Catania drew with Napoli.

Juventus were given one or two anxious moments by lowly Atalanta but they ultimately proved far too strong and prevailed 5-2.

Mauro Camoranesi stunned Atalanta with a quickfire brace towards the end of the first half (36 and 37) to put Juventus in control.

Jaime Valdes reduced the deficit early in the second half, only for Felipe Melo to restore Juve's two-goal cushion in the 55th minute.

Atalanta battled back again courtesy of a Fabio Ceravolo effort on 70 minutes and that set up an exciting finale.

But Diego finally killed off Atalanta's hopes with a fourth Juventus goal five minutes from time and David Trezeguet inflicted further damage two minutes later.

Saturday's second match pitted a Catania side on a three-match losing run against in-form Napoli.

Napoli would have moved into the top four, for 24 hours at least, with a victory over their struggling opponents.

It was Catania who carved out the carved out the clearest opportunities but they were not able to break the deadlock as the match ended goalless.
