Siena, who sit bottom of the Serie A standings, have run out of patience and parted company with coach Marco Baroni.

With just one victory to their name in the league this season, the club have decided that a change of direction is required.

Sunday's 2-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Atalanta proved to be the final straw for Baroni, as he failed to last a further 24 hours in his post.

Siena have moved swiftly to appoint Alberto Malesani as his successor and hope he will help to bring about a reverse in fortunes.

The experienced boss has previously worked for the likes of Fiorentina, Parma, Verona, Modena, Panathinaikos and Empoli.

Siena had hoped to bring Mario Beretta back to the club, with the 50-year-old having overseen the club's best Serie A finish in 2007/08, but abandoned talks when he asked for a two-year contract.
