Serie A Atalanta were stunned by lower league opposition in the Coppa Italia, but Napoli avoided an upset and Palermo easily progressed.

Atlanta are currently struggling in the top flight, sitting 17th in the table, and a 1-0 defeat to third-tier outfit Lumezzane will only increase the misery.

Antonio Conte's side struggled throughout against their visitors from Lombardy and were ultimately undone by Michele Marconi's 19th minute winner.

Fellow Serie A side Napoli were 1-0 winners over Cittadella as Mariano Bogliacino's 27th minute goal proved enough against Serie B opponents.

Palermo made light work of Reggina in Sicily as they hammered the second division side 4-1.

Fabrizio Miccoli's 28th minute penalty and Edinson Cavani's strike shortly before the hour mark had given Palermo a two-goal advantage.

But Sergio Volpi managed to pull a goal back three minutes after the half-time interval to spark hope of a comeback.

Igor Budan, though, then netted twice in the space of five minutes (69, 74) to crush any such suggestions.
