Claudio Ranieri admits he is "proud" to be linked with the Italy job, but insists he is focussed on remaining Roma manager.

The former Chelsea tactician has been linked as a possible replacement for Marcello Lippi as the Italian national team coach, who has been in charge for six years and has been rumoured to want to return to league football.

Ranieri, who has guided Roma to third in Serie A at the midway stage of the season, would like to take the Azzurri post in the future, but the 58-year-old says he is more than happy in his current employment.

"I read it on paper," Ranieri told Sky Italia. "But now I'm Roma coach. I'm proud of this. I'm surely pleased that they are also only just thinking to me.

"I've told it also in no suspect times, that at the end of my career I'd like to be able to coach a national team.

"Then, should it would be the Italian National team, it would be great.

"But now there is a big program at Roma that is fascinating me and that allowed me coming back to the capital city that is my town, and I want to continue here for a long time."
