Ronaldinho has told AC Milan target Zlatan Ibrahimovic he would be glad to see the Swedish star at the San Siro.

Milan have been in transfer talks over Ibrahimovic, who left rivals Inter Milan just last summer in a big-money move to Barcelona.

Ronaldinho, 30, left Barca for Milan in the summer of 2008 and has urged the 28-year-old striker to follow suit - even though it would put his own starting role under threat.

Ronaldinho returned to the Camp Nou as Milan faced Barca in a friendly on Wednesday and the Brazilian star was seen joking with his potential new team-mate before kick-off.

"Right now everyone's talking about Zlatan," he told the Milan Channel.

Welcome recruit

"I told him that if he should come to Milan he would be welcome and it would be a pleasure to play with him, but we'll see what happens."

Milan reached the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League and finished third in Serie A last season, 12 points behind Inter as their rivals secured their fifth straight title.

The Rossoneri have since boosted their squad by signing veteran defender Mario Yepes from Chievo while taking goalkeeper Marco Amelia and midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng on loan from Genoa.

So even if Milan fail to seal a deal for Ibrahimovic, Ronaldinho is confident his club can improve on last season's performance.

Motivated

"Even without Ibrahimovic we're a team that works hard," he added. "We can't wait to start the season so we can do well.

"All the players are very motivated and that makes me happy. Personally I want to win trophies with Milan and now I must start my work to help the team win.

"Last season we did well, (although) we let the possibility of winning the league slip away. There are many other good teams in the league but we can also do well."
