Roma officials have reiterated their desire to see Philippe Mexes pen a contract extension.

The Frenchman's future has been cast into doubt after he admitted to being unsure as to whether to sign a new deal at Stadio Olimpico.

With first-team football no longer guaranteed, the centre-half believes he must consider his options before deciding what move to make.

Reports have suggested that he could be a target for AC Milan, with a switch during the January transfer window widely touted.

Roma, though, insist that they have no plans to part with the 28-year-old and are determined to see Mexes commit to the club.

Faith

"We rely on him and have great faith in him," general manager Gian Paolo Montali told L'Equipe.

"He has one year still remaining on his contract. Making him prolong that agreement is our priority.

"I will say it very clearly, we intend to work on that in the coming weeks.

"Mexes will not be leaving in January. He is indispensible."
