Massimo Moratti has hailed the arrival of McDonald Mariga as the 'best thing that could have happened' to Inter Milan during the transfer window.

The Kenyan midfielder, 20, looked set to join Manchester City on deadline day but the move fell through due to work permit issues.

Inter, who had previously stated that they would not be doing any more business during the winter, then decided to make a late swoop for Mariga.

He has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Nerazzurri and Moratti is excited about what he will bring to the club.

"Mariga is a very interesting player," said Inter president Moratti.

"He is young and he can do very well. I believe it is the best thing that could have happened to us in the winter transfer market."

Mariga joined Parma on a permanent basis in the summer of 2008 and has made nine league appearances this season.
