Mido told to mend his ways

AJAX coach Ronald Koeman has stated that Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam has a future at the Amsterdam ArenA, provided he toes the line.

The young Egyptian has been banished to the reserves for disciplinary reasons, leading to speculation that he could be shipped out of Amsterdam.

At a press conference ahead of the weekend trip to Utrecht, Koeman would not comment on the reasons behind the decision, simply saying Mido has to show he wants to play for Ajax.

Koeman said: "It`s disciplinary.

"Mido didn't cooperate with the rules of the club. This has happened several times since his arrival.

"I didn't say farewell, but I have to say he has to adapt.

"If he just acts normally and good, there will always be a moment when he can return.

"I think we as technical staff can't do anything more for Mido. It's up to him now."

Local media reports are suggesting Mido failed to attend a function that had been arranged for some time.

Whatever the reason, it is clear that Koeman will no longer tolerate players not carrying out their duties.

He added: "In his own country, he is seen as a superstar but he must be aware that he has a lot to learn and needs to be reminded about what it means to play for a club like Ajax.

"If I put him on the bench he must work hard in order to earn respect."

The axeing of Mido has reportedly put a number of teams on alert, with Serie A titans Juventus and Lazio monitoring developments.

Mido is hot property, despite his troubles, and both Juve and Lazio have been keen for some time.

The two Italian sides have quality attacking talent on their books, but the chance to snap up one of Europe`s most promising forwards would certainly appeal.
