Relegation strugglers Chievo have signed Lazio marksman Stephen Makinwa on loan.

The Nigerian striker has been frozen out at Lazio - making only four substitute appearances for the Sky Blues this season - after falling behind Mauro Zarate, Goran Pandev and Tommaso Rocchi in the pecking order.

Makinwa became unhappy at his lack of first team football in the Italian capital and put in a transfer request in December.

And Chievo have snapped him up after looking to add some firepower as they prepare for a relegation dogfight.

The 25-year-old will be formally presented on Friday as he begins life with the Flying Donkeys.

The Ceo new boy has been in the peninsula since 2000 when he signed for Reggiana and has played for several sides, including Genoa, Palermo and Atalanta.

On the move to Chievo, Makinwa told skysports.com: "Lazio was great to me but a footballer's life is a journey.

The forward revealed he had attracted interest from the Premier League during the transfer window and refused to rule out a move to England in the future.

"We just have to wait and see, I did have some contacts [from English clubs] but staying in Italy is something I like at the moment," Makinwa added.
