England coach Fabio Capello says he is 'very happy' to see David Beckham impressing at AC Milan.

Beckham has shone since joining Milan on a two-month loan from Los Angeles Galaxy and is keen to stay at the San Siro permanently.

His performances are expected to see the midfielder earn a call-up to the England squad for next week's friendly in Spain, with Capello to pick his players based on match fitness.

An appearance in Spain would allow Beckham to equal Bobby Moore's record of 108 caps for an outfield player and Capello feels the former Manchester United star has improved with each game for Milan.

Star

"I'm very happy for David and for AC Milan," said Capello at the LMA President's Dinner in London.

"He is a media star and for this reason all the fans spoke about him in this way before he arrived; like a star not a player. But now he has played three games, and every game has been better.

"Milan want him to stay, and the fans are very happy for his style of play and the performances for the team."

Capello is looking forward to the date with the European champions in Seville, even though he will be without Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

He added: "I think England will be strong in Spain, I am very confident in my team.

"Spain play fantastic football. They are very quick but I enjoy this kind of challenge."
