Former Fiorentina midfielder joins on a free transfer

Parma have snapped up former Italy international Massimo Gobbi on a free transfer. Gobbi, who appeared once for his country in 2006, had been looking for a new club since his contract with Fiorentina expired at the end of last season. Roma and Schalke had also been linked with the versatile 29-year-old, who can play at left-back as well as in midfield. But he has now headed to Parma after four seasons with Fiorentina, having previously spent time with Cagliari. Parma also announced the signing of teenage midfielder Danilo Pereira from Benfica, although they gave no more details on the 19-year-old from Guinea-Bissau.
